At Noisy Hammer HQ, we also have a repair and service department. Our super-trained and skilled engineers and amp technicians repair and fix all sorts it amplifiers and cabinets all week.
This week we had a big, and heavy, job on the bench.
An Orange AD-200.
A full-valve bass amplifier.
A beast of an amp with mega tone and power to boot.
It has been in use at a local music college and had a bad day or maybe a year.
The brought in not working and had no sound output.
After a full checkover and valve check we had a bag full of issues.
All valves had seen better days.
One power valve had a full vacuum fail.
A new full set needed to be ordered and installed.
This failure in turn had blown (literally exploded) board resistors, also in need of improved replacement. We increased the tolerance to help with reliability.
Finally new fuses across the HT. These blew when everything else got taken out.
A thorough clean and diagnostic across the rest of the amp and we knew what needed to be done.
Big list of failures but It's all now back to working and sounding better than ever. It may have had a little extra testing once completed.
